For some time TXDOT has planned the design for the widening of Walnut from Landa street to loop 337. This was needed to accommodate New Braunfels growing population and ease traffic congestion. The geographic location of the road follows a canyon along the transition from blackland prairie to Edwards’s plateau. This unique geology included some of the Texas Hill Countries toughest limestone formations necessitating heavy rock trenchers and Excavator mounted hammers. Because of the limited working space, traffic control and soil conditions this was one of the toughest projects we had encountered. The short time frame also created a stressful environment during one of the wettest springs in recent years.
